Standard Fees

Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMS) cost £120 for each party:

(this assesses if mediation is suitable ) If signed court forms are needed, there is an additional £30 fee for this service.

Joint Mediation Sessions cost £240.00 per person per session or £480.00 per couple, for the standard two hour session. Payable in advance of the session. This equates to  £120 per hour per person

The cost for the session also includes a written summary of the main points discussed which is e mailed to each party, usually a few days after the session. Signed court forms if required  can be requested at a cost of £30

Sessions usually last for up to  two hours. No VAT is charged.

There is no extra charge if you prefer an evening or exceptionally, a weekend session. Evening appointments can be made up to 7pm (start time) -subject to availability - Monday to Friday.

If face to face shuttle mediation is indicated, there is an extra charge of £40 per person ( added on to the normal fees) to cover the hiring of two adjacent rooms.

Child consultation rates are £140 per one hour session.

Drawing up a Parenting Plan costs £70 per party.

In the event of cancellation, 48 hours notice needs to be given otherwise there may be a fee of £35 charged per person.

Preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding (The Mediator’s summary of all the agreed proposals) costs £300.00 per person. This is offered at the end of the mediation.

Preparation of an Open Financial Statement (A summary of all the finances based on the supporting documentation) costs £300.00  per person. This is offered at the end of the mediation.

Payment is requested before drafting of these documents commence. There may be additional administration charges if the time for the  drafting is excessive and takes longer than the standard 3 hours to draft. This will be charged at £120 (per person) for each additional  hour.

The approximate average/standard  mediation cost, ( for 3 sessions including the MIAM and the concluding documentation ) where parties are willing to settle matters, will be in the region of £1440  per person including the  two concluding documents mentioned above. Mediation is significantly less expensive than litigation and going to court, instructing opposing sets of barristers. Court costs where proceedings are contested can run into many thousands of pounds (on average £40K per party with legal representation) which can diminish joint assets considerably.

SKYPE/ video link Mediation is charged at normal Family Mediation rates.

Publically funded  mediation  ( ie Legal Aid Mediation) is not provided.  We also do not at present accept Mediation Vouchers.  See below for more information under terms and conditions.

A pro bono service/ concessionary rate may exceptionally be offered. The mediator's decision is final.

 

 


 

Terms and Conditions

MIAMS last approximately  one hour.

Sessions of  2 hours  is the  usual for joint mediation. The Family Mediation offered is private Family Mediation.

The number of mediation meetings required will depend on the individual case and the willingness to reach agreement  but usually it takes between 3 to 4 mediation meetings to reach a settlement on most issues.

You are encouraged to seek advice from your own solicitor at any time, if you have legal queries. Your solicitor will look over your final documentation before completing the legal formalities. The solicitor can make your mediated agreements into legally binding Consent Orders.

Similarly, you are encouraged to seek advice from your own financial adviser, where this is indicated.

Payment is  made by on line bank transfer before the session. Exceptionally by  cash  at the beginning of the face to face session. Visa and Debit cards are not accepted.

With video mediation payment to be made by bank transfer 24 hours before the session.

No VAT is charged.

There are no additional charges for e mails, letters, notes, telephone calls,  or administrative charges.

Occasionally the  mediation will in addition involve a trained and qualified co-mediator. This will be discussed with the parties first. There is no extra charge for co-mediation.

Mediations are held at 67-69 Widmore Road, Bromley, BR1 3AA or at 25 Beadon Road, Bromley, BR2 9AS

or  by Skype or WhatsApp or a similar video platform.

If you are on a low income you may be  eligible  for a free MIAM and free legally aided mediation( for instance, if you receive Universal Credit ) from another mediation provider. You can  contact another Family Mediator or another Family Mediation Service who offers this service. Discuss this with the mediator at the initial contact.

A concessionary rate can exceptionally be offered  by this Service, to clients earning less than £20,000 per annum  who may not be willing to wait for a legal aid decision and choose to go privately. Please discuss this with the mediator. It is at the mediator's discretion.

 

Complaints

We hope you will consider your mediation is conducted to the highest standards as required by FMA and FMC.

Please raise any concerns with us first. We hope to address your concerns so that the mediation can still proceed.

If not, we aim to resolve matters to your satisfaction internally and informally according to our complaints policy.

Complaints Policy   Please put your complaint in writing to Suzanna Stein and submit by e mail. You will normally receive an answer within 10 working days.

If the internal process is exhausted, you may complain to the FMC ( Family Mediation Council)  A copy of the FMC complaints policy is found on the FMC website.
